Music Teacher for all ages
Children at Scallywags have the input of a specialist Music teacher, Mary, formerly of Music Play Time. Mary specialises in teaching music to children up to the age of 9 but is otherwise a qualified teacher.
Our large garden is reached by going through the jungle walk and is situated at the back of the nursery. There is an outdoor toilet block for the children’s convenience and rainy day wear and umbrellas so that they can enjoy outdoor play come rain or shine.
The area has been specifically designed to provide fun learning opportunities. Imaginative open and covered play equipment allows the children to enjoy outdoor play in most weathers and provides special little places for them.
There are plenty of opportunities for children to learn a new language and communicate with each other as we have small group - focussed activities which involve story sacks, rhyme time and sharing toys.
Every day, both the toddlers and babies participate in Music Playtime, which all of the staff have been trained to deliver by our qualified music teacher, Mary who also visits us once a week.
We have a qualified baby yoga co-ordinator for the under 2’s. We feel it is very important for all children, including young babies to be able to express themselves. Our babies love the quiet time, the stretching and the physical activity of learning some basic yoga moves with our staff and discovering what their bodies can do.
So when you come to pick up your child or just to visit, you may walk into a room with lots of bums in the air. Please don’t be alarmed, it’s only our baby yoga class! You may even want to join in!
I can't recommend Scallywags enough. Our little boy has loved it from when he started six months ago. The staff are all amazing; he has formed lovely relationships with those he sees on a regular basis and they seem to genuinely like having him there too! Best nursery in Sheffield.
My little boy absolutely loves it here. The staff are amazing. He has settled in perfectly.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, out of the 10+ I went to see it was a cut above. Now he has been going 6 months I can safely recommend highly.
Our team ranges from new recruits who are training with us to team members that have been with us since day one in 1995.
The team consists of many mature practitioners with families and responsibilities of their own, who have worked at Scallywags for a number of years providing continuity of care for your children and your family.
Warm & Friendly
The staff provide a warm friendly atmosphere and the development of your child is encouraged at their own pace. The staff provide activities to stimulate each individual child through play and other activities including music, outdoor play, stories etc.
Staff at Scallywags are qualified with diplomas in early years or equivalent qualifications, some have degrees in early childhood studies foundation or above. We also employ qualified teachers and we are also a training facility for Early Years Professionals to the University. Staff are also trained regularly in first aid, food hygiene and safeguarding.
The staff are humorous, amiable and loving with the children who very much enjoy their time at nursery. A key-worker system is in place for all age groups. Your child’s key-worker is responsible for documenting your child’s needs and progress and can talk to you about any concerns you may have with regard to these aspects of your child’s care and education.
Each year the staff contribute to our ongoing business plan by devising individual plans to develop their own units.
